Several lime trees were felled by Kilkenny’s Local Authority at the Peace Park. The trees had survived the February storms intact – however the Council had other plans and according to the report (link below) from the Kilkenny People – they had been earmarked for removal to facilitate the construction of the central access scheme bridge.
An estimated crowd of 600 people took part in a march in bright sunshine, from the Peace Park, through Irishtown, up High Street and finished on the Parade. Speakers on the Parade included Councillor Malcolm Noonan, who called on the authorities to complete Kilkenny’s Ring Road and not pursue the Central Access Scheme.
